Captains for a CURE

Captains for a CURE fundraiser and auction was held on Saturday, September 14th, 2019, and was hosted by Fremont Mischief Distillery, Trident Seafoods, Cameron Catering, and four of your favorite "Deadliest Catch*" Captains, all with the goal of raising $250,000 benefiting the American Parkinson Disease Association! We are beyond grateful to share that we surpassed that goal and have raised $375,000!!! These funds will provide support, education and research that will help everyone impacted by Parkinson's disease live life to the fullest! We are also proud to share that APDA will be funding a research grant in honor of Chuck Bundrant. This grant has been awarded to Van Andel Institute to study a mutation in a protein called VPS35 that is known to cause Parkinson's in some families. A recent study also found that people with PSP-P had a mutation in this protein. APDA feels that further studying this protein can have ramifications for PSP, and funding this research is a wonderful way to honor Mr. Bundrant.

The Captains came together to honor their friend and hero, Chuck Bundrant, Trident Seafoods Founder and Chairman, who was instrumental in helping them and many more get started in the fishing industry. Chuck lives an active life full of hope and optimism despite struggling with an atypical form of Parkinson’s disease, PSP. Funds raised will enable APDA to continue providing information, education, and support to all those impacted by Parkinson's, and to fund scientific research into the disease's causes, prevention, treatments, and ultimately the cure.

Who:

400 friends and fans will attend in support of Chuck Bundrant and four generous Captains from the Discovery Channel's* "Deadliest Catch;" Captain Casey McManus and Captain Josh Harris of the F/V Cornelia Marie, Captain Sean Dwyer of the F/V Brenna A, and Captain Keith Colburn of the F/V Wizard. View videos below to see where this story began with the Whiskey Challenge and Fremont Mischief Distillery.

What:

Mischief’s Storm Tossed Rye was aged aboard each of these captain’s ships in the Bering Sea for 2 years, where differences in storms, waves, temperature and barometric pressure create different flavor profiles. The whiskeys are back, bottled and ready for release. Fans can “blind” taste each Whiskey and vote for their favorite. Guests will join the Captain's in their quest to raise $250,000 for APDA with a silent and live auction. Some of the items included are, the Captain's chair from the Cornelia Marie wheelhouse, crab and whiskey packages, vacation getaways, autographed photos and logo gear, and one really stinky pair of greenhorn baiting gloves. Enjoy live music, sip delicious beverages from Fremont Mischief, dine on fresh seafood at Trident’s Fork & Fin food truck, delight in scrumptious bites from Cameron Catering, don greenhorn Grundens for a picture with your favorite captain, and much more!

Why:

The Captains along with Fremont Mischief Owners Mike and Patti Sherlock, Cameron Catering Owner Suzanne Cameron, and the Trident Seafoods staff have worked hard to make this event possible in honor of their friend, Chuck Bundrant. The Bundrant family has been a longtime supporter of APDA since 1999, when fellow fisherman Chris Jewell was first diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Seven years later in 2006, Chuck received his own diagnosis, and their support has never wavered.

1 million people in the U.S. are living with Parkinson’s disease, the fastest growing neurological disease in the world.
