Dave “The Groz” Grosby has been one of Seattle’s most recognizable and beloved sports voices for more than three decades. He helped launch Seattle’s sports talk era when he joined KJR in 1991, later co-hosting the iconic Groz with Gas show—Seattle’s top-rated sports talk program for much of its 15-year run. Over the years, Dave also hosted coverage for the Mariners, Seahawks, and UW Husky football, was on Washington State football broadcasts, and served as the voice of Seattle University basketball.

His career has spanned nearly 40 years across radio and television, including KFI Los Angeles, KIRO, and most recently 710 ESPN Seattle, where listeners still hear him in regular segments and digital features like his weekly Just a Minute commentary. Dave also continues to reconnect with longtime colleague Mike “Gas” Gastineau on their current Groz with Gas Take 5 podcast.  He has interviewed most of the top names in sports over his long career and lists Muhammed Ali as a favorite.

After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2018, Dave brought his trademark honesty, humor, and openness to a new role: advocate. He has partnered closely with APDA—hosting our Passport to Research series, emceeing Optimism Walks and fundraising events (including a memorable sports trivia night with ESPN founder Bill Rasmussen), and raising thousands to support the Parkinson’s community.

Dave’s voice has always brought people together—through storytelling, through laughter, and now, through hope. We are honored to recognize not just a legendary broadcaster, but a powerful example of resilience, optimism, and community.
